Visual Aid Blog

Child Abuse Causes Underachievement
This visual aid supports one of my points. Child abuse victims can have long-term financial problems and this image shows why. How is a person suppose to hold or obtain a good paying job is they have cognitive problems, language problems, and low academic achievement? They can't. Child abuse affects them greatly on the long-term as will. It is not the children's fault and that's why something needs to be done about child abuse, so there we can reduce the amount of lives being ruined in the U.S.

To revise my proposal draft first I plan to meet the word count. I have only about 1,700 words and I need to have a minimum of 2,000 words. To reach this minimum I am going to include what the parents will be learning in there classes and they can apply to their life. I will also be making my proposal more positive instead of something forceful by the government. I also need to include all nine of my sources instead of only seven. I will also be erasing some information that is irrelevant to my essay.

A precaution that can be taken to prevent child physical abuse is by educating parents about apporopriate child discipline and parenting techinques. Learning proper punishments for children's misbehavior will decrease the amount of child abuse in this country. The only problem is money. How will parents pay for those classes and how will those programs be funded? Some parents physically abuse their children without knowing that they are, because it was the way their parents punished them. By educating parents they will understand what is bad punishment and why. There may be some parents who feel it would be ineffective for the reason that they believe they know what is the best way to discipline their children and that nobody should tell them how to do so. People may also object to it's funding, because it may rise taxes.

To try and prevent child sexual abuse from happening. There are certain behaviors a person can watch for. Most child abuse victims are abused by people they know and trust. If a family member is acting a certain way with a child, whoever is watching has the opportunity to do something and prevent anything more serious from happening. Some people may be too embarassed to actually do something, because they might be afraid of being wrong. If these behaviors to watch for are advertised, more people will be informed and be watchful for those behaviors. It might be a commmercial or advertisement that people might object to, becasue it may seem inappropriate.

After child abuse children need to recover and the best solution for that is therapy. Therapy has the ability to help cope with a child abuse victims behavioral problems and psychological scars. Maybe a child just needs support, reassurance, and love to cope with those problems and therapy would just be a waste of time. But, if a child sees a therapist they can benefit on achieving their developmental milestones. People might object to it, because therapy is expensive.

Argument of Fact

For my argument of fact paper I would like to clear up that not all abused children suffer the the same emotional consequences. I will provide information about how some refuse to go into those emotional consequences so that they can have a better future. There are child abuse victims that did not turn into delinquents, home runaways, serial killers, or child abusers. Even though child abuse is wrong and it needs to stop, we must not discriminate every person that went through something like this and believe they are a threat to society. There are testimonies of child abuse victims who experienced different results than usual child abused victims. I need to find the percentages of those people in society.

What My Resources Have Shown Me

Over the week I chose three sources on my topic to write my annotated bibliography. Each of these sources had valuable information which I used in my annotated bibliography. One source had more information about the emotional consequence child abuse has a child, such as isolation depression, anxiety, eating disorder, suicide attempts, P.T.S.D., and low self-esteem. The second source I used for my paper taught me about the economic consequences of child abuse in adulthood. Adults who suffered from child abuse have a lower level of education, low earnings, fewer assets, and are less likely to own a home, a bank account, stock, a vehicle, and also more likely to have a mortgage debt. My last source has a bit of everything, such as health consequences of child abuse, psychological consequences of child abuse, the types of abuse, short-term and long-term consequences, and the emotional instability of child abuse. Physical abuse in a early childhood can create malformation to certain parts of the brain which leads to speech problems, visual, cognitive, and motor damage. Behavioral consequences of physically abused children are delinquency, aggressive behavior, running away from home, lying, violent relationships, early sexual activity, addictions, problems in thinking, and social withdraw. The psychological consequences in this source are similar to my first one, such as depression, anxiety, P.T.S.D., learning difficulties, attention disorders, and problems with memory. Most of this is very surprising. I knew about some behavioral consequences, but everything else was new. I feel that I still need to learn what are the statistics to these consequences. That means I might have to look at more sources and find the ones who provide what I need. I might look at more articles.

Finding Academic Sources

Finding sources to answer the questions on my topic took a lot of patience. I searched for my sources in my University’s library link. At times it was so much to soak in I just had to quit for a while, and then continue my search. To find what I needed and wanted for my topic I entered “long-term and short-term consequences of child abuse” and quickly thousands of results popped out. Luckily, there are ways to narrow down those results, such as setting how old I want my sources to be. All my sources take different approaches. Some talked about the psychological consequences of child abuse, some were very specific as to what kind of child abuse brings what kind of consequences, and others about the behavioral consequences of child abuse. Each of those different perspectives are important for my research and so I saved them. Another place I found some sources was at my University’s library. My tutor and I took some time to find some trade journals and books about my topic. We walked around for a while and got some help. We looked in some journals, but we weren't successful. We ran out of time and ended our search with only online sources. By looking at these sources I noticed how child abuse has been an issue for many years and about the incredible consequences there are from child abuse. There are some victims that end up with bad consequences and not living a happy life and then there’s those who end up having a good life and just leaving their child abuse in the past.

Child Neglect

Children are the future of this world, so it is our responsibility to help them learn to do what’s right. The future depends on us, so why participate in child neglect? Do you know what the short-term and long-term consequences of child neglect are? It is my goal to research about this and be able to write an annotated bibliography about it. Why do parents neglect their children? If they don’t want to deal with them then why didn't they give them up for adoption, instead of making their children go through this? Did the parents grow up in an abusive home as well? What percentage becomes a threat to society? Do the parents feel any remorse for what they make their child go through? Do they not reflect that those children will grow up one day and what has been done to them might be done to them as well? My mother once told me about this man that grew up with her, he was abut thirty-years-old, but acted like a seven-year-old.  His parents did not understand why he acted the way he did, so instead of trying to understand and cope with the way he was born they would beat him. As a thirty-year-old, they would tie him up, pick on him, and of course beat him. When his parents’ grew old he did not take out his rage on them. Instead he took care of them and provided for them. Maybe it is because with the way he was he could not quite create that revenge in him treat them bad. His mother is sick and he provides for her. He gathers money and provides her with food even though he is sick as well. I can say this man has a great heart. Even though he didn't take revenge or take his rage out on others, what was done to him was not right. Children deserve happiness and wellness. It upsets me to see children without sweaters. Why would you bundle up and not bundle up your child? Anytime I see a child with a dirty face I just want to get a wet towel and clean their face. They need to be cared for not maltreated. It also upsets me to see children crying of hunger while their parents eat. I once saw this family with a toddler who was crying. I assumed he was crying of hunger, because his parents were eating. They would just well at him to shut up and I remember they grabbed the child and just through him to the back seat. It was painful for me to see. I felt like crying because of what I say. My aunt got their license plates and I believe she did what she had to do. I hope that child is being taken care of better now.  Every child deserves love, understanding, and parents concerns.
