Child Neglect

Children are the future of this world, so it is our responsibility to help them learn to do what’s right. The future depends on us, so why participate in child neglect? Do you know what the short-term and long-term consequences of child neglect are? It is my goal to research about this and be able to write an annotated bibliography about it. Why do parents neglect their children? If they don’t want to deal with them then why didn't they give them up for adoption, instead of making their children go through this? Did the parents grow up in an abusive home as well? What percentage becomes a threat to society? Do the parents feel any remorse for what they make their child go through? Do they not reflect that those children will grow up one day and what has been done to them might be done to them as well? My mother once told me about this man that grew up with her, he was abut thirty-years-old, but acted like a seven-year-old.  His parents did not understand why he acted the way he did, so instead of trying to understand and cope with the way he was born they would beat him. As a thirty-year-old, they would tie him up, pick on him, and of course beat him. When his parents’ grew old he did not take out his rage on them. Instead he took care of them and provided for them. Maybe it is because with the way he was he could not quite create that revenge in him treat them bad. His mother is sick and he provides for her. He gathers money and provides her with food even though he is sick as well. I can say this man has a great heart. Even though he didn't take revenge or take his rage out on others, what was done to him was not right. Children deserve happiness and wellness. It upsets me to see children without sweaters. Why would you bundle up and not bundle up your child? Anytime I see a child with a dirty face I just want to get a wet towel and clean their face. They need to be cared for not maltreated. It also upsets me to see children crying of hunger while their parents eat. I once saw this family with a toddler who was crying. I assumed he was crying of hunger, because his parents were eating. They would just well at him to shut up and I remember they grabbed the child and just through him to the back seat. It was painful for me to see. I felt like crying because of what I say. My aunt got their license plates and I believe she did what she had to do. I hope that child is being taken care of better now.  Every child deserves love, understanding, and parents concerns.

  1. This is a good topic to research, Joselinne. It's definitely heartbreaking. So do you think you'll focus on the reasons why some parents treat their children this way? If so, you might also ask what kind of resources are out there for parents that don't know a lot about parenting.
